Tungsten Carbide Turning Tools

Metaloy offers a comprehensive range of high-performance tungsten carbide turning inserts, engineered with advanced CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) and PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coatings. These inserts are specifically developed for high-speed machining and heavy roughing applications across a wide spectrum of materials including steel (P group), stainless steel (M group), cast iron (K group), and superalloys (S Group).

Each insert is available with multiple chip-breaker geometries, ensuring optimal chip evacuation, reduced heat generation, and consistent surface finish. Our solutions are tailored to enhance tool life, cutting efficiency, and process stability, even under demanding machining conditions.

Steel – ISO P Group

Steel machining demands a balance between toughness and wear resistance due to varying cutting forces and material hardness. Metaloy provides two types of advanced coatings for steel applications:

  • Thick CVD Coated Carbide Grade
Developed using a specialized carbide substrate, this insert features a multilayer CVD coating of TiCN + Al₂O₃ + TiN
  • This configuration delivers:
    • Excellent wear resistance in high-temperature environments
    • Enhanced toughness to withstand heavy and interrupted cuts
    • Extended tool life for roughing and semi-finishing applications
  • Thin PVD Coated Carbide Grade
Designed with a micro-grain carbide substrate, this insert includes a thin PVD coating of TiAlN / TiAlSiN
    It is ideally suited for:
    • High-speed finishing operations
    • Applications requiring thermal stability and oxidation resistance
    • Scenarios where edge chipping is a concern

Stainless Steel – ISO M Group

Turning stainless steel involves significant challenges due to its high toughness, work-hardening tendency, and heat generation. Selecting the appropriate grade is critical for achieving consistent tool life and chip control.

  • Thick CVD Coated Carbide Grade
Featuring a durable carbide substrate and a high-performance CVD coating of TiCN + Al₂O₃ + TiN, this grade is optimized for stainless steels that demand:
    • High wear resistance under thermal stress
    • Prolonged tool life in continuous and semi-interrupted cuts
    • Effective chip evacuation for improved productivity
  • Thin PVD Coated Carbide Grade

The coating of TiAlN / TiAlSiN offers enhanced resistance to built-up edge formation and is ideal for:

    • Finishing applications and light cuts
    • High-speed operations with lower cutting forces
    • Machining austenitic and ferritic stainless steels

Cast Iron – ISO K Group

Cast iron materials, known for their abrasiveness and variable hardness, require inserts that maintain edge strength and thermal stability.

  • Thick CVD Coated Carbide Grade
Specially developed for cast iron machining, this insert incorporates a robust CVD coating of TiCN + Al₂O₃ + TiN on a toughened substrate, delivering:
    • Outstanding abrasion resistance
    • High-speed capability in dry and wet conditions
    • Superior performance in both grey and ductile cast iron applications
